Released in the year of his 80th birthday, LSO Live presents the world premiere recording of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’s architectural tenth symphony. Universally acknowledged as one of the foremost composers of our time, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies has made a significant contribution to musical history through his wide-ranging and prolific output. Symphony No 10 was commissioned by the LSO and tells the story of the 17th century Roman architect Borromini, who suffered much criticism for his idiosyncratic buildings and tragically committed suicide. An important influence on Maxwell Davies’s life, Boromini’s architectural and mathematical principles permeate throughout the symphony; a work that speaks of creativity, life, death and renewal. Sir Peter Maxwell Davies says of his creation, “I wanted to make the point that no matter how much you might personally go through which is difficult and you have to cope with, that there’s something which makes it all worthwhile.”

Commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra with generous support from UBS as part of ‘UBS Soundscapes’, the Orchestra e Coro dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Roma) and the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. Published by Schott Music Ltd.
